ACR + RSNA make suggestions to ONC

The American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) submitted joint comments to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) in response to a government report on health information exchange, which ACR and RSNA said did not adequately consider current health IT (HIT) integration initiatives.

The report, published in December of 2010 by the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, called for the adoption of a universal exchange language for secure health information exchange based on metadata-tagged elements. "Unfortunately, the report did not adequately address Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise and other important initiatives already happening in the HIT community," ACR and RSNA said in a statement.

The ACR and RSNA's comments were submitted to ONC following the office's public request for information regarding potential ways to implement the report's recommendations through meaningful use and other federal initiatives.
