Brooklyn hospital opts for OpenVista EHR

Lutheran Medical Center (LMC) has successfully implemented Medsphere Systems’ OpenVista EHR throughout the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based 476-bed teaching hospital.

In this first stage of a move toward a paperless environment, LMC physicians are entering 93 percent of medications through OpenVista’s computerized provider order entry (CPOE) module, stated Medsphere, of Carlsbad, Calif..

Clinicians at LMC can access a range of OpenVista features including CPOE, medication order management, laboratory, radiology and nutrition/food service. Emergency room efficiency is attained through an ED Tracking Board that LMC developed and Medsphere will share with other clients through a healthcare open source ecosystem. The system becomes interoperable with third-party applications through Medsphere’s Interface Suite, Medsphere stated.

Collaboration and communication facilitated by OpenVista also enabled LMC providers to transition to an EHR environment where reductions in administrative paperwork created more time for patients to receive care, the company added.
