Netsmart behavioral EHR modules earn certification

Behavioral healthcare software provider Netsmart Technologies’ Avatar 2011 EHR software completed 31 of the 45 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) certification tests earning a certificate of EHR compliance for 29 modules.

The successful tests for Avatar 2011 included passage of nine required security-related modules and other tests in such areas as computerized provider order entry, clinical decision support, medication management, health information exchange (HIE) encryption, providing consumers timely access to information and capturing vital signs and body mass index data.

Netsmart, of Great River, N.Y., is targeting December for certfication under the remaining ARRA tests for Avatar 2011. Testing has been conducted under Drummond Group's Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) authorized testing and certification body (ATCB) program.

Behavioral healthcare providers must use a fully certified EHR to qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments for meaningful use of EHR technology.
