Webmedx, NLPI bring natural language processing to medical transcription
Webmedx will harness NLP International's natural language processing (NLP) software to boost the data mining and search capabilities of Webmedx’s QualityAnalytics product line.
The agreement was announced at the American Health Information Management Assoication (AHIMA) Convention and Exhibit in Orlando, Fla., by Webmedx, a medical transcription service provider and supplier of speech recognition and quality analytics technology.
The addition of NLP software will expand Webmedx’s QualityAnalytics customers’ ability to mine discrete, structured data from physicians’ transcribed, narrative reports. This information has a variety of secondary data uses in healthcare, including core measures reporting, meaningful use quality reporting and clinical documentation improvement for recovery audit contractor (RAC) and other recovery audits.
The technology also supports the coding process and accelerates populating of EHRs, Webmedx said.
