ProCure to open Illinois proton therapy center

Proton therapy provider ProCure will open its second proton therapy center, the CDH Proton Center, A ProCure Center, in Warrenville, Ill. on Oct. 19.

The center—which was originally slated to open in early 2011—will be the first proton therapy center in Illinois and ninth in the U.S., said the New York City-based firm.

An alternative to x-ray radiation for patients with cancer, proton therapy spares healthy tissue, results in fewer short- and long-term treatment side effects and is effective for treating children and adults with anatomically complex tumors, including tumors at the base of skull and along the spinal cord, said ProCure.
