Columbus Regional Hospital joins Indiana HIE

Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Ind., has joined the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), linking to more than 65 hospitals, long-term care facilities and other healthcare providers to access information for patient care.

The Indianapolis-based Regenstrief Institute’s Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC), supported by IHIE, handles approximately 2.5 million data transactions daily, including laboratory test results, medication and treatment histories. This information is critical to diagnoses, treatment and referral decisions and will be available to the 225-bed Columbus Regional healthcare providers in a standardized electronic format, according the Indianapolis-based IHIE.

The INPC also supports services including delivering test results and reports to physicians through the DOCS4DOCS service and also provides a chronic disease and preventive health service through the Quality Health First Program, offered by IHIE.

IHIE connects the state of Indiana’s hospitals, other healthcare facilities and physicians to provide patient care which follows the patient, rather than being siloed in a physician's office or a single hospital system, IHIE stated. The network currently serves more than six million patients and more than 19,000 physicians.
