Smartronix expands health IT services with Cogon purchase

To expand its health IT portfolio, Smartronix has acquired Cogon Systems, which will now exist as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Smartronix, led by Cogon's current CEO, Huy Nguyen, MD. Financial details were not disclosed.

Founded by Nguyen, Cogon facilitates healthcare connectedness through its virtual health network (VHN) platform, a service-oriented architecture using an enterprise service bus that provides business logic flexibility, network scalability and data interoperability, according to the Hollywood, Md.-based Smartronix. Basic services currently provided in the VHN include diagnoses/problem lists, continuity-of-care information, previous procedures and clinical notes.

Cogon's VHN presently allows for the sharing of health records between the Department of Defense and commercial hospitals, Smartronix added.
