FDA gives nod to Zoll's monitor/defibrillator

The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to Zoll Medical for its Propaq MD monitor /defibrillator, a device that will be utilized by the military and air medical operators.

The device, which was developed under a grant from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development command, is 60 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than other Zoll monitors and is equipped with an LCD display screen that can review 12-lead ECGs.

Additionally, the Chelmsford, Mass.-based company said the device features a night vision goggle mode for night operations and can display patient vital signs, physiological data, SpO2, ETCO2 and respiration rates.

Patient data can be downloaded to a USB flash drive and transferred to EMRs using a XM format.
