Verizon enters the cloud with plans of new HIE
Verizon Business, a unit of Verizon Communications, will soon make available Verizon Health Information Exchange (HIE) via cloud technology to share patient information electronically among healthcare providers.
According to the New York City-based Verizon, Verizon HIE will consolidate clinical patient data from providers and translate it into a standardized format that can be accessed over the web. Participating exchange providers across communities, states and regions will be able to request patient data via an online portal. Because Verizon HIE will be delivered via Verizon's cloud computing platform, healthcare organizations will be able to use their current IT systems, processes and workflows, the company stated.
Verizon added it will leverage the capabilities of several technology and service providers – MEDfx, MedVirginia and Oracle – to deliver features of the service including: a clinical dashboard, record locator service, cross-enterprise patient index and clinical messaging.
