CMS to keep CPT code for CV telemetry the same

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed that the technical component of mobile cardiovascular telemetry (CPT Code 93229) remain carrier-priced for calendar year 2011, within its Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule released June 25.

The Proposed Rule release is followed by a public comments period which will culminate in CMS’ Final Rule expected by Nov. 1 for implementation on Jan. 1, 2011.

Joe Capper, president and CEO of CardioNet, which develops ambulatory, continuous outpatient monitoring technologies, commented: “Given our efforts to obtain a national reimbursement rate for CardioNet’s MCOT technology, we are disappointed in CMS’ Proposed Rule. We will work diligently during the public comments period to request that CMS change its recommendation.”
