Michigan orgs launch statewide HIE
Five Michigan hospital systems—Lakeland Health System, Metro Health, Northern Michigan Regional Health System, Spectrum Health and Trinity Health—have established Michigan Health Connect (MHC), a statewide health information exchange (HIE).
These organizations had been collaborating for months to deploy results delivery, laboratory and radiology ordering and EHR/reference lab interfaces to more than 460 physician practices and community hospitals, according to Medicity of Salt Lake City. Through the HIE, they will leverage health IT and clinical data exchange via Medicity’s Novo Grid HIE infrastructure and will provide the framework for electronic patient information exchange among healthcare providers.
The MHC service area spans 39 counties, covering 2.2 million people and more than 3,500 providers in a range of care delivery environments. The HIE is expected to serve hospitals, physician offices, federally qualified clinics, behavioral health facilities and a variety of other health organizations, Medicity said.
MHC will collaborate with the state of Michigan on various initiatives and pilot projects to ensure ongoing coordination and sustainability in statewide transactions and close alignment with federal Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) requirements, Medicity said.
