GE releases virtual sleep lab for sleep apnea analysis

GE Healthcare has unveiled the Mars virtual sleep lab, to provide a view of quantitative cardiac and sleep apnea analysis from any GE-monitored inpatient bed.

Powered by the WideMed Morpheus Hx sleep apnea diagnosis program, the company said its Mars VSL reports on apnea hypopnea index, sleep staging and respiratory events. Following a sleep apnea diagnosis, a positive airway pressure device can be prescribed while the patient is still in the hospital, increasing the chance that obstructive sleep apnea patients can begin treatment before other complications develop, GE stated.

Mars VSL enables quantitative Holter analysis for in-hospital cardiac patients, the company added. Holter devices collect cardiac information from patient monitors and perform a quantitative analysis. Because Mars VSL links into the GE's Carescape CIC Pro central station monitor, a quantitative Holter analysis can be performed from any connected patient bed.
