N.Y. telerad service to read images from Haitian hospital with Viztek help

Viztek is working with Westbury. N.Y.-based Complete Radiology Reading Service (CRRS), in configuring the CRRS technology to a network of children’s hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti, in order for CRRS to help read imaging exams.

St. Damien’s Children’s Hospital, also a Viztek customer, is a 120-bed facility located on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince has been able to receive patients despite having experienced minor damage as a result of the earthquake. Due to the influx of patients, the volume of x-ray studies has increased dramatically, said Raleigh, N.C.-based Viztek.

Viztek said its Web-based Opal-RAD PACS software and the network configuration by its support team has allowed access to St. Damien’s database of exams.  The CEO of CRRS, Dr. Allen Rothpearl, and six additional radiologists have donated their time to interpret for the Haitian hospital, said the company.
