Medipattern, N.J. image center link to digitally detect breast cancer

Medipattern will provideB-CAD [computer-aided detection] software that uses breast ultrasound imaging at the Ocean Medical Imaging Center (OMIC) in Toms River, N.J.

According to the Toronto-based company, B-CAD features the ability to characterize breast lesions using the American College of Radiology (ACR) Ultrasound Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS).

"Mammography can detect cancerous lesions long before a lump is ever felt and then we use breast ultrasound imaging to characterize the lump. B-CAD helps us to detail more evid ence concerning masses and suspicious calcifications," said Joseph Triolo, MD, a board-certified radiologist at OMIC.

The software will replace the current analog system to a digital system that communicates diagnoses by using BI-RADS evidence based descriptors instead of handwritten notes, according to the company.

Medipattern said that the partnership was developed through Lake Forest, Calif.-based InSight Health Services, said the company.
