athenahealth books 42% revenue increase for Q2
Internet-based physican-business service provider athenahealth has booked an increase in its unaudited 2009 second quarter fiscal results, which ended June 30.
The Watertown, Mass.-based company said its 2009 second quarter net income was $3.03 million, compared with net income of $2.78 million in the 2008 second quarter. Its total revenue for the quarter was $46.7 million, compared with $33 million in the same period last year, representing a 42 percent increase.

As of June 30, athenahealth had cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments of $96.3 million and short- and long-term debt and capital lease obligations of $11.5 million.

- $1.2 billion in collections posted to client accounts in the second quarter of 2009, compared with $900 million in the same quarter of 2008;
- 20,323 active medical providers using athenaCollector in the second quarter of 2009, compared with 13,554 in the same quarter of 2008;
- 1,043 active medical providers using athenaClinicals in the second quarter of 2009, 624 of whom were physicians, compared with 498 providers and 365 physicians in the same quarter of 2008.
