GE deploys RIS/PACS at LSU
Louisiana State University (LSU) Health System will deploy GE Healthcare's RIS, PACS and diagnostic reporting system.
GE said the $12.5 million contract is intended to create a filmless and paperless central database and radiology image repository for sharing patient imaging data among LSU's 10 public hospitals and more than 500 clinics in Louisiana.
"The selection of GE for the implementation of the RIS/PACS is the first major building block of the LSU statewide EHR system," said Fred Cerise, MD, LSU system vice president for health affairs and medical education. "This system is intended to make patients' scans available at any LSU hospital and clinic throughout the state regardless of where the image was taken."
Implementation of GE's Centricity RIS/PACS system at the first site begins in late August and is expected to be live at all 10 hospitals within one year, according to the company. Also, the implementation will supplement LSU's Health Information Exchange (LSU-HIE), expected to be live within three months. LSU-HIE will then enable each LSU EHRs to be available at any LSU hospital, of particular importance during hurricane evacuations when patients are dispersed from their homes.
