Medical AI company Caption Health appoints new CEO
Medical AI company Caption Health has appointed Steve Cashman as its new CEO and president, effective April 14.
The company is known for its AI-powered ultrasound solution, Caption AI, that enables users to capture high-quality images without lengthy training on the technology.
Caption Health raised $53 million in a Series B funding round in 2020, spearheaded by DCVC, with other contributions coming from Atlantic Bridge, Edwards Lifesciences and Khosla Venture. To date, the California-based company has raised nearly $61 million, according to TechCrunch.
Cashman comes to Caption Health from InTouch Health, where he served as chief commercial officer. InTouch was acquired by Teladoc last year. In his role with InTouch, Cashman oversaw domestic and global sales, product, marketing, customer service and clinical services. Under his leadership, the company saw 35% year-over-year growth in 2019.
He takes over from Caption Health Co-Founder Charles Cadieu, PhD, who is departing from the role to pursue other ventures.
“I've spent the last decade bringing the provider closer to the patient through telehealth. Now, by incorporating ultrasound imaging earlier in the patient journey, we can continue to improve access to care and inform the care pathway," Cashman said in a statement. "It's not hard to imagine a future where Caption AI is in the hands of every healthcare professional, from physicians to APPs to nurses, wherever they deliver care. This technology makes deep, meaningful assessments of human health as routine as checking a patient's blood pressure—and I'm excited for any part I can play in bringing about that future."
In addition to Cashman’s appointment, Kilian Koepsell, PhD, the remaining co-founder and current chief technology officer, will take on a larger leadership role, helping to advance Caption Health's strategy for technological innovation.
