UnitedHealthcare names new CEO

Brian Thompson has been named UnitedHealthcare’s new CEO. UnitedHealthcare is the health benefits business of UnitedHealth Group and one of the nation’s largest health insurers.

Thompson has been with UnitedHealthcare since 2004, most recently as CEO of the company’s government programs, serving the health and wellbeing of seniors and Medicaid beneficiaries through the Medicare & Retirement and Community & State businesses. In his new role, Thompson will aim to drive growth across the global, employer, individual, specialty and government benefits businesses.

“Brian’s experience, relationships and values make him especially well-suited to help UnitedHealthcare improve how healthcare works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments and our other partners, leading to continued and sustained long-term growth,” Andrew Witty, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, said in a statement.

The leadership change comes nearly two years after UnitedHealth Group appointed Dirk McMahon as its new CEO.
