5-year grant awarded to CVD researchers using AI
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has awarded researchers at University College London (UCL) £1 million ($1.27 million) to study cardiovascular disease. The funding will be used to bring in a new team of researchers and develop a research center focused on AI.
“Despite the medical advances powered by research, 420 people in the UK still die every day because of heart and circulatory diseases,” Metin Avkiran, BHF associate medical director, said in a prepared statement. “That’s why we’re continuing to invest in research and supporting our scientists to make new life-saving discoveries.”
According to the statement, BHF’s five-year accelerator grants are designed to “attract and nurture the very best young scientists and doctors in cardiovascular medicine and complementary fields.”
The funding also helps recipients increase their chances of being honored with additional BHF awards in the years ahead.
