FDA Commissioner Robert Califf, MD, who is a cardiologist, spoke at the opening session of the American Heart Association about the need to step up and address two major problems in the American healthcare system. 

American Heart Association President Michelle A. Albert, MD, urged physicians to seek out patients who may have not received medical care since the start of the pandemic. These patients could face an increased risk of cardiac complications.

The new analysis, published in Circulation, confirmed that vaccine-related myocarditis is incredibly rare.

The new certification, based on recommendations published in Circulation, was developed to signal that a facility offers cardiac surgery and primary PCI at all times. 

The American College of Cardiology (ACC), Association of Black Cardiologists, American Heart Association and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions are just some of the healthcare organizations supporting the FDA's proposal.

These recommendations, the group emphasized, do not include patients with a history of CVD or those who are already taking aspirin for another reason.

The grants went to 11 different research teams in the United States and are expected to fund these projects for three years.
