Trump promises ‘insurance for everybody,' offers no specifics
President-elect Donald Trump said his replacement for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be “insurance for everybody,” potentially putting him at odds with his own party’s healthcare proposals in Congress.
“There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us,” Trump said in an interview with the Washington Post.
He later clarified that he’s not advocating for single-payer healthcare but declined to offer more pecifics on how he’ll reach his coverage goal, promising to lay out a full plan once his nominee for HHS Secretary, U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Georgia, is confirmed.
Universal coverage, however, is not what Republicans in Congress have in the works in their own ACA replacement proposals, most of which include eliminating the individual and employer mandates on health insurance.
