CVS Health has announced a hiring blitz with the aim to add 25,000 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses and retail store associates.
The hiring event takes place on Sept. 24 and comes amid a labor shortage across several industries, including healthcare. CVS Health is making its hiring push just ahead of the flu season, which the pharmacy chain expects to be busy.
CVS is looking to fill new and existing positions, with most being full-time, part-time and temporary licensed pharmacists, trained pharmacy technicians and nurses at CVS Pharmacy store locations. The roles will be filled as soon as possible to increase CVS Health’s capabilities to serve patients and customers. In addition to serving customers during flu season, the new hires will also help CVS Health’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, administering testing and vaccinations.
"Every flu season we need additional team members, but this year we're looking for even more. With the continued presence of COVID-19 in our communities, we're estimating a much greater need for pharmacists, trained pharmacy technicians, nurses, and retail store associates,” Neela Montgomery, executive vice president of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy, said in a statement. “These jobs offer a rewarding opportunity to really make an impact on public health in our country."

The hiring push also comes after the pharmacy retailer raised its starting wage to $15 per hour. Many major companies have increased wages and benefits as the employment market has become tighter.
