Citing increased patient demand, Mayo Clinic announced this week that it is expanding its facilities in Jacksonville, Florida.
The $432 million project includes five new floors, with 121 additional inpatient beds, and 56 ICU beds.
Included in the expansion: an integrated oncology facility, an 866-space parking garage, 12,000 square-foot emergency department, and an eight-story Hilton hotel.
Construction is scheduled to commence later this year. The target date for completion is end of 2026.
“The expansion of our hospital will enable Mayo Clinic to offer outstanding, high-quality care to more patients with serious and complex illnesses,” Kent Thielen, MD, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida, said in a prepared statement. "Designed to maximize flexibility, the expansion will facilitate new care models, accelerate digital innovation and enhance patient experience."
In the statement, Mayo Clinic said that it has experienced "unprecedented growth” in Florida, spurring a 23% increase in staffing over the past three years.
Beginning in 2016, Mayo Clinic said that it has invested more than $1 billion in major construction projects, doubling its space by 2026 with new facilities for patient care, biomedical research, education, and technology.
