Trump puts healthcare back on top of his agenda

When his first push to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) failed to garner enough support, President Donald Trump initially said he would move onto other issues, namely changes to the tax code. He appears to have changed his mind in an interview on the Fox Business Network.

“We're going to have a phenomenal tax reform, but I have to do healthcare first,” Trump said. “I want to do it first to really do it right.”

Tax reform would affect the healthcare industry, as the American Hospital Association has noted. But the fate of the ACA has created uncertainty among insurers that may decide to exit the law’s exchanges, like Anthem has decided to do, rather than bet the administration won’t weaken the ACA through regulatory changes or eliminating cost-sharing subsidies.
