Northwell Health fills top finance roles

New Hyde Park, New York-based Northwell Health, the largest hospital system in the state, has named Michele Cusack, MBA, its new CFO and senior vice president, and appointed Richard Miller, MBA, as executive vice president and chief business strategy officer.

The pair will be succeeding former CFO Bob Shapiro, who is retiring after 17 years in the role.

“Both are insightful individuals with vast knowledge of our health system who have been instrumental in strengthening our financial performance and guiding prospective ventures,” Northwell president and CEO Michael Dowling said in a statement. “Both will transition into new, complementary roles that will drive our financial health. Their guidance will be critical as we continue to innovate and grow.”

Cusack has been with Northwell since 1996, most recently serving as deputy CFO and senior vice president of finance. Miller came to the system in 2008 after serving as CFO for NUY Hospitals Center. He’ll also continue to serve as chair of Northwell Health Plans Holding Company.

The system had announced earlier this year it would shut down its insurance division, called CareConnect, due to losses it blamed on the Affordable Care Act’s risk adjustment program.
