Lab equipment company BioSurplus names new CEO

BioSurplus, a lab equipment commerce company based out of San Diego, has named Bill VanDeWeghe president and CEO.

VanDeWeghe is replacing Cinco Plumb, who will continue to serve as chairman of the board, according to a statement from the company.

VanDeWeghe, who brings more than 20 years of experience to the company, was the co-founder and CEO of mapping platform RippleNami. He also previously served as managing director at RA Capital Advisors and was a senior shareholder for Klinedinst PC law firm, both of which are based in San Diego.

"In the biotech and life science industry, BioSurplus has become the 'go-to' resource for preowned laboratory equipment," VanDeWeghe said. "Whether customers are buying equipment, selling surplus assets or closing entire facilities through our auction capabilities, the BioSurplus brand is synonymous with superb customer service. I am excited to build on this success and lead BioSurplus into the next chapter."
