Kaiser Family Foundation appoints New York Times journalist as editor-and-chief

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation has announced renowned New York Times health journalist Elisabeth Rosenthal, MD, as the new editor-in-chief of Kaiser Health News.

Rosenthal will lead the Kaiser Family Foundation's nonprofit news service, covering top stories in healthcare policy and breaking news through the many different distributions both national and regional as well as the foundations website KHN.org.

"Throughout her career, Libby has been a leader in finding and reporting great health policy stories and explaining their impact on people," said Drew Altman. "That focus on what health policy issues mean for people is the hallmark of our organization. She is the ideal leader as we expand KHN and deepen its work with more enterprise and investigatory reporting, and I am thrilled to make this appointment."

Rosenthal is an award-winning journalist and doctor, with her most visible work including coverage of healthcare pricing in her series, "Paying Till It Hurts." Written in 2013-2014, the series discussed complex health policy issues and included 10 major installments, followed by follow-up articles, videos, photographs and interactive graphics. Rosenthal is currently finishing a book on the healthcare system that is set to be published in 2017.
