The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) elected its board of directors for the next year at its annual meeting in Orlando.

Assuming the role of president will be John Meigs, Jr., MD, a family physician from Centreville, Alabama. He had previously served one year as president-elect along with four years as speaker and three years as vice speaker to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. In addition to his practice, he serves as a clinical professor at the University of Alabama.

Taking over as president-elect is Michael L. Munger, MD, who won a three-way race over Jack Chou, MD, and Robert A. Lee, MD. Munger practices at Saint Luke’s Medical Group in Overland Park, Kan., outside of Kansas City, and has previously served on the AAFP’s board and as president of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians.

The other senior members of the board include:

• Board chair: Wanda Flier, MD, MBA, a former AAFP president and president-elect practicing in York, Pennsylvania.
• Speaker for Congress of Delegates: Javette Orgain, MD, MPH, practicing in Chicago.
• Vice speaker: Alan I. Schwartzstein, MD, practicing at SSM/Health Dean Medical Group in Wisconsin.
• Executive vice president and CEO: Douglas Henley, MD, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, who previously served two years as board chair and one year as president.
