Merger proposed between home health providers LHC Group, Almost Family

Louisville-based home healthcare provider Almost Family has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by competitor LHC Group in a deal that would create the second-largest home health agency (HHA) in the U.S.

As Insider Louisville reported, the all-stock deal is valued at $836 million. If the merger is approved by regulators and shareholders, the combined company retaining the LHC name would have 31,000 employees in 781 locations in 36 states and annual revenue of $1.8 billion, behind only Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare.

“This merger is truly a transformative event for both our companies and our patients nationwide and a unique opportunity to bring more than 30,000 dedicated and talented employees together to lead the in-home healthcare industry’s transition to value-based reimbursement and highly coordinated care," said LHC Group chairman and CEO Keith Meyers, who would run the combined entity.
